Snort is a powerful feature for IPS and self ruling against the edge intrusions.  Setup and managed correctly it give excellent insight to your traffic, SRC/DST, what kind of traffic, Good Bad and Ugly, and can help provide security while you sleep at night or work in the day.

Snort is default to several tools we use.  With Oinkmaster, Secuurty Level and prewritten rules, Snort can be your best friend.  Loosely managed it will be your worse management nightmare.
