This guide will show you how to gather useful information that can be used to quickly troubleshoot and resolve issues with Windows VMs.

When providing troubleshooting information, you should always include the following:

  • Name of the affected machine as it appears in vCenter.
  • The service that is being impacted specifically; HTTP, HTTPS, SCP, VoIP, Backup, VPN, IPSEC, VPS/VM or otherwise.

1. Open Command Prompt as administrator.  This can easily be done from the Start menu.

2. Run the command winsat formal.  This will run tests on the system and provide output that can be used for troubleshooting.

Note: This command will only produce output if you are running Command Prompt as Administrator.

Copy/paste the entire output of this command so this can be reviewed.

3. Run the command tracert 1.1.1.1.

Copy and paste the entire output of this command so that it can be reviewed.

4. Open the Task Manager.  This can be done by pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE and then clicking on "Task Manager".
